Hey, my videos for Charlotte Gainsbourg & Justice were both nominated for Best Music Video at the D&AD awards!  That’s like the UK version of the AICP awards.  Thanks to everyone who nominated the clips.  I gained 44 manna points!!

Charlotte Gainsbourg video review

keithschofield:

is funny  because of this part in particular: “Don’t you like people with pancakes for a head? Old women marrying trash people?”

I couldn’t figure out what scene the latter description was.  Then it occurred to me, it’s probably the robot prom scene.  Old lady?  She’s like a teenager!  I guess it’s all open to interpretation.

The Charlotte Gainsbourg video is apparently playing at McDonalds in Germany.

this was pretty great, though they should have cropped a bit more!  Wes Anderson is always 2.35:1.

Terry just pointed out the guy who played Owen Wilson was also the blonde video gamer in the Super Nintendo scene in the Charlotte Gainsbourg video.  How crazy!

Hey Eli, an interview I did in PITCHFORK is now online! It’s all about the Charlotte Gainsbourg video, and there’s some tidbits in there.  Although I was misquoted on one thing - I never in a million years would have said that the 50’s Latino teenagers with the walnut were stoned.  They weren’t!  Anyway, it’s a nice article.  Thanks to Ryan Dombal.

ENFIN! Les quinze meilleurs vidéoclips de 2009
Hey, my video for Justice landed the number one spot on La Videotheque’s best clips of 2009.  And - Charlotte Gainsbourg at #5!  I even put together a little acceptance speech.  It’s in the third video.

Black Hole Sun it Isn’t (1 star out of 5)

by Fenshu, Dec 15 2009.

Remember that sick feeling you had the first time you tried watching the video for Black Hole Sun?  I do… There was so much plain weird imagery in that video that it gave you an overall “ooky” feeling and made you want to wash your eyeballs in vinegar.  This video does that… although I am 99% sure this song won’t grow on me like BHS did.

Way to creep me out, iTunes!

oh, and first

Hey, next Thursday (Dec. 17th) I’ll be appearing LIVE onstage with Michel Gondry!  Well, we’ll be in the same room, at least.  It’s the next Flux screening, they’re going to play my Charlo Gainsbeck video, and then I think I’m going to talk for a bit afterwards.  But what will really be cool will be the premiere of a new Michel Gondry video, along with a performance on stage by him and Mia Doi Todd.  So get tickets or RSVP or whatever.  More info on this site.

Hey, the Charlottebeck video was named the 7th best video of 2009 by the readers of Stereogum. That’s like the People’s Choice Awards for Hipsters.  Thanks everyone!

Fun fact #1: Charlotte Gainsbourg dubbed the voice of KW in the french version of Where the Wild Things are.

Fun Fact #2: Beck and Charlotte’s new video is awesome.

From her forthcoming album IRM it’s directed by Keith Schofield who is probably best known for that internet dynamo “Diesel XXX SFW” ad and his UKVMA-winning Supergrass “Bad Blood” video. Both of those are on his site as well as his Justice/Kravitz “Let Love Rule” video which is also fantastic.  via We Love You So

Hey, my videos for Charlotte Gainsbourg & Justice both made Pitchfork’s top videos of 2009! Check out this quote and awesome company: “Some were picked because they’re the work of boundary breaking directors (clips by Patrick Daughters, Dougal Wilson, and newcomer Keith Schofield).”
Also, this AV Club piece on 17 weird Beach Boys songs is pretty funny.  As people may know, they’re one of my favorite bands and have one of the weirdest “amazing highs and horrible lows” discographies ever.  Notably absent from this list is the late 70s tennis-as-a-metaphor-for-love track “Match Point of Our Love.”
